Cycle & Insulin Balance

Table of Contents

Insulin and ovarian hormones are closely connected, so how your cells respond to insulin can influence cycle regularity, skin and energy. Cycle & Insulin Balance gathers the products I commonly use to support healthy insulin signaling and hormone balance alongside nutrition, movement and sleep.

The mechanisms this protocol supports

Insulin tells cells to take in glucose, and inositols act as second messengers that carry that signal inside the cell. When insulin signaling becomes less efficient, the ovaries can make more androgens, which can affect ovulation and cycle timing.

Oxidative stress in ovarian tissue and chronic low-grade inflammation also influence how well the ovaries work. Over the years, insulin resistance is one of the main ways metabolism changes with age.

A guideline meta-analysis linked inositol with better metabolic markers and more regular ovulation in women with irregular cycles, and research has linked low vitamin D status with insulin resistance. This protocol supports those mechanisms and works best alongside care from your own provider.

What is in the protocol

The exact products and directions are listed in the Fullscript plan, and here is what each one is commonly used to support.

  • Ovasitol from Theralogix provides myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol in the ratio found naturally in the body, and it has been studied for supporting insulin signaling and regular ovulation.
  • NAC from Thorne provides N-acetylcysteine, which supports glutathione and antioxidant defenses, and trials have linked it with better insulin and ovulation measures.
  • Vitamin D + K2 Liquid from Thorne provides vitamin D, which immune, muscle and bone cells all rely on, together with vitamin K2, which helps direct calcium into bone.
  • ProOmega-D from Nordic Naturals provides the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA along with vitamin D. Omega-3 fats have been linked with healthier triglycerides and inflammatory markers in women with insulin-related cycle changes.

How to use it thoughtfully

  • Please talk with your provider before starting, especially if you take medications, are pregnant or nursing, or have a health condition.
  • This page does not list amounts, so follow the label or the specific guidance your provider gives you.
  • When you can, add one product at a time so it is easier to notice how you feel.
  • Sleep, nourishing food, daily movement and stress care are the foundation, and supplements are meant to build on them.
  • Inositol may add to the effects of blood sugar medications, so please check with your prescriber if you take one.
  • Berberine is sometimes discussed for insulin balance, but it is not included here because it is not safe during pregnancy, and it should only be considered as an optional add-on with your provider when pregnancy is not possible.
  • Vitamin K2 can interact with warfarin, so please check with your prescriber before starting if you take a blood thinner.
  • Missed periods, very heavy bleeding or new symptoms always deserve a conversation with your provider.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol?

Both are forms of inositol that carry insulin signals inside cells, and Ovasitol combines them in the ratio that is found naturally in the body.

Why is berberine not part of this protocol?

Berberine is not safe during pregnancy and interacts with several medications, so I leave it out and only discuss it as an optional add-on when it is appropriate.

Do I need an appointment to order these products?

No, you can create a free Fullscript account and order directly, although I always recommend checking with your own provider first, and a free 15-minute consult is available if you would like to talk it through.
