Navigating the 14-Day Detox: How the Program Works

Table of Contents

Quick answer: The 14-Day Detox is a structured two-week program to support your body’s natural detoxification. It includes a recipe guide and approved food list, a pre and post assessment, an anti-inflammatory whole-food diet that limits grains, dairy, sugar, legumes and alcohol, optional liver-supporting supplements chosen with your provider, plus hydration, exercise and stress reduction.

Welcome to the 14-Day Detox

This online guide gives you the tools to complete the program even if you don’t purchase supplements. Your liver, kidneys, gut, lungs and skin detoxify your body every day. A “detox” program can’t replace those organs; the goal is to reduce exposures and give them the nutrients, rest and hydration they need. Evidence for commercial detox programs is limited.

Key components

Recipe guide and approved foods

Use the recipe guide and list of approved foods.

Pre and post assessment

Complete the pre and post assessment questionnaire before you start and when you finish.

Anti-inflammatory foods

  • Include: organic fruits and vegetables (the majority of your plate), grass-fed meats, wild-caught fish, nuts and seeds, olive, coconut, flaxseed and avocado oils
  • Exclude: grains, dairy, sugar, processed foods, artificial sweeteners, alcohol and refined vegetable oils
  • If you can’t avoid all grains, choose small amounts of gluten-free grains; keep legumes to a minimum

Liver support

Some people use milk thistle, N-acetyl cysteine or glutathione with guidance. Talk with your provider first, especially if you take medications. See detox supplements.

Hydration, exercise and stress

  • Drink water throughout the day (see hydration)
  • Aim for about 30 minutes of moderate activity most days
  • Practice meditation, deep breathing or yoga

Healthy aging lens

A short reset can build habits, such as more vegetables, less alcohol and better sleep, that lower inflammation and oxidative stress long term.

When to see a naturopathic doctor

  • Ongoing fatigue, headaches, skin or digestive symptoms
  • Known exposure to lead, mercury, mold or workplace chemicals
  • You take medications or have liver, kidney or heart conditions and want to try a detox plan
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding (detox protocols are not recommended)

See a medical provider promptly for signs of poisoning such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, confusion, seizures or trouble breathing, or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
